Conquering Creative Blocks in LA

Every designer has those moments where they cycle between Indesign, Photoshop, and Chrome, thinking something will spark the creative genius embedded deeply in their brain. The great news is, inspiration is found everywhere…especially in SoCal. We somehow got the most beautiful combination of weather, culture and arts. I don’t know about you, but I feel blessed. Here are three great spots to take a breath of fresh air and reset your right side.

1. If you enjoy a little Flea Market Flip on HGTV, you’ll love The Melrose Trading Post at Fairfax High School. From Mad Men-esque furniture to vintage typewriters with an epic story to tell, it’s inevitable that you’ll leave ready to create. Get off the couch this Sunday and browse it rain or shine… oh, and the live jazz is the cherry on top.

2. Grand Central Market in DTLA is a hipster’s paradise. Put on your best flannel shirt and Uber down for some good eats… {we’re thinking start with a little brekky at Eggslut, peruse Grand Central Jewelry, and loiter a bit more until you’re ready for lunch at Olio GCM Woodfired Pizza. Totally ok with an entire day revolving around meals} If your adventure takes you into the evening, check the calendar for classic movie screenings or game nights. Don’t forget to finish your voyage with McConnell’s ice cream.

3. LA is known for some of the country’s most amazing museums outside of NY. Here’s where I get to gush about my romantic engagement at the Getty, right? Ok…I’ll spare you. But really, LACMA is kind of to die for. Celebrating their 50th anniversary, the contemporary collection ranges from super intriguing and ultra famous to “I don’t get it,” which is half the fun.
